Autism is a neurological condition that affects millions of people in the world. Some families have only heard of autism, but are uncertain of what it really means and the causes as well as the effects of it. It can be a devastating diagnosis and at times, really hard to understand. That is what millionaire and hedge fund manager Sanjay Shah felt when the doctor told him the diagnosis of his two year old son. He was having some eating issues which are common for autistic children and individuals, so Sanjay and his wife took him to the doctor to find that he did indeed have autism. At the time, Shah wanted to be able to just “fix” the problem and find a cure. There is currently no cure for autism, so why not do the next best thing, which would be to raise money to help raise awareness and donate to research. That is exactly what Sanjay Shah has done.
After years of owning his own investment companies, he finally retired to focus his efforts on his family and Autism Rocks, which started in 2014. The success of the charity has allowed him to focus on building the financial side as well as the music and concert based side. Autism Rocks is an invite only concert based type of event that helps raise donations. He has been able to donate some of the funds to universities and aid in their research programs. Cambridge University has a program that helps families as well as patients cope learn how to cope with the condition. Many people don’t have the skills or understanding to learn how to cope nor do they have the money to get the help that they need. Shah hopes that Autism Rocks can help with that and get people the care that they need to understand that condition better. He has had the pleasure of working with many musicians and will continue to do so in the future.
